Nourish: Regeneration Diet
Every day, our bodies attempt to create health from the air we breathe, water we drink and food we eat. If we give it denatured, deficient and toxic elements, we fight against our own enormous resources to maintain health. However, it is not helpful to proceed out of fear, focusing on the many challenges we face, but to be motivated by a sense of excitement and curiosity. The journey to healing and health is a process, like a pilgrimage, with high points to enjoy along a path that does not end.
Consider this: nothing you do, nothing you eat or drink, is neutral. Everything either nourishes you in some way, leading to homeostasis, the condition of balance that is in essence the definition of health, or it creates an imbalance that, if carried too far, can lead to ill health.
Many factors that we cannot control affect our health - a toxic environment, stresses of many kinds. However, what we eat is directly under our control; this can be a liberating concept!
While it is beyond the scope of this website to provide every detail of a healthier diet, we can begin with some basic principles that are supported by science.

Here are the basic principles that have stood the test of time. They are not “rules” but principles that will guide you toward a diet that supports regeneration
- Eat low on the food chain, that is, as many plant foods (vegetables and fruits, beans, nuts, seeds, whole grains, etc.) as possible.
- If and when you consume meat or fish, consider a portion size to be about the size of a pack of cards.
- Eat slowly, chew carefully, avoid stress when eating. Be grateful.
- Drink plenty of pure water, but avoid drinking with meals which dilutes the food - and avoid ice cold beverages.
- Avoid toxins, sugar and artificial ingredients - read labels; choose less processed foods.
- Eat food prepared at home as much as possible to control quality.
- Prepare some raw food every day. Make your salads out of a large variety of ingredients.
- Don’t eat right before bedtime - have your last meal of the day as early as possible.
- Eat multiple smaller meals rather than eating large quantities at one sitting.
Your health - or lack of it - is built on habits. You can’t change everything overnight. Pick one or two habits that you want to change, and just work on those until you have new habits. Then pick one or two more. Remember, the path to a better diet is a journey with no end, with rewards to celebrate along the way.
If you’re ready for more specifics, I invite you to sign up for a series of Nutritional Letters that are sent to you by email every day for five days.
